Fixing Painful or Failed Root Canals to Save Your Tooth

The goal is to clean and seal the tooth for healing.

Retreatment is redoing a root canal that isn’t healing or starts hurting again.

Most root canals work well, but retreatment is often needed when

  1. Bacteria returns
  2. Roots are hard to fully clean
  3. Fillings and crowns start to leak

Common Reasons for Not Healing Properly

Canals

Curved or narrow canals were not treated during the initial treatment.

Complications

Complicated canals may have hidden areas where bacteria can
re-enter.

The Crown

The crown or restoration was not completed within the appropriate amount of time following the procedure.

Cracks

A cracked or loose filling or crown can expose the tooth to new infection.

I must admit, I was terrified to get my very first root canal. Everything I heard from people having a root canal was scary. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The worst part for me was the numbing process, but it was no worse than what I was use to with other dental numbing. The staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. Dr. Wedding is a rock star. He made me very comfortable and he was a gentle giant. I truly recommend this office if you need a root canal.
